Historic St Andrew's Church is mentioned in the Domesday Book and served as the Priory Church when the neighbouring Benedictine Priory was founded. In 2016 Stephen Ling and Linda Hudson carried out a photographic survey of Redlingfield churchyard the results of which we have endeavoured to present on this website. The survey is dedicated to Eddie Coe 1933-2016, village blacksmith and long-term resident of Redlingfield, who drew a plan of the graves with names even where no stone existed. Linda and Stephen have re-drawn his plan and numbered the graves. In the instances where no stone exists they have given the date of burial found in the Parish Records rather than the actual date of death. They also made use of an earlier survey completed in the 1920s and lodged at Ipswich Record Office. You will find an alphabetic index and a map here which will give you the number of the grave you are searching. The photographs and inscriptions are entered numerically and by area. By referring to the plan you will able to find the position of the grave in the church yard. Information on the men who lost their lives in the 1948-18 war and are commemorated on the war memorial, can be found on our Villagers Who Served page. Historic England has carried out a detailed Historic Places Investigation into the area around Redlingfield Hall. The analytical earthwork survey by Daniel Hunt and Magnus Alexander reveals much about the village's history as well as the priory. You can download the Historic England report here.
