Unsafe goods: Suffolk Trading Standards Imports Team have detained a mixed consignment of over 4000 unsafe items, including tools, lighting and kitchen equipment. The consignment was due to be delivered to a fulfilment centre in Rugby, with all products due to be sold on eBay.
- 300 Crystal lamps found to be a risk of fire as well as injury from sharp edges.
- 300 Ceiling lamps with speakers posing a risk of fire and electric shock.
- 52 Air Fryers found to pose a risk of overheating.
- 1400 Electric fly killers posing a risk of electric shock, fire and injury.
- 195 Massage pillows found to be a risk of fire, injury and electric shock.
- 198 Ceiling lamps posing a risk of fire.
- 870 Cordless Drills found to pose a risk of electric shock, fire and explosion.
- 240 LED Ceiling lights considered a risk of electric shock, injury and fire.
- 324 Electric coffee grinders posing a risk of electric shock and injury.
- 210 Cordless chainsaws found to have no operable chain brake or blade cover, presenting hazards of injury and loss of control.
The goods were imported from China and destined for sale on eBay. The listings have been removed from the site and the goods will be destroyed. If you have purchased a product that you think may be unsafe, stop using it immediately and report it to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133. Make sure you only buy products from a reputable retailer. If buying on an online marketplace such as Amazon or eBay, make sure you check the details of the seller and that they have a UK address. Check the reviews for the product to see what others have said, and remember, if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is! Importers are responsible for ensuring that all the products imported comply with UK product safety legislation. It is a criminal offence to supply an unsafe or non-compliant product.
