A tree on the village triangle came down in Storm Elin just before 4pm on Saturday. It took out power cables and blocked Church Road outside Bright Thinken. George and Rosie saw the tree come down and they, as well as Glenn and Tracy, got on to the emergency services pronto. A UK Power Networks line manager was driving through the village and also saw the tree come down. He shut the power off and waited for the police and UK Power Networks’ engineers who arrived very quickly. They shut the road and some 33 houses on the Knoll, Church Road and Green Lane lost power. The power supply was turned off whilst the tree was removed and engineers repaired the cables so the power was turned back on as soon as possible. Many thanks go to Dick, who got to work immediately cutting up the tree and using his JCB to get it off the road, as well as Drew, who arrived with his teleporter, and Del who also pitched in to help. The tree has now been moved off the road and on to the triangle. Anyone who wishes to help themself to the wood is welcome to come along, cut off the bits they want and take them home. Pictured are Dick, Del & Drew at work on the tree. The UK Power Networks emergency number is 150 - if anyone needs to call them in future.
