The arrival at of the 95th Bomb Group's B-17s at neighbouring Horham airfield on June 15th 1943 had a huge impact on Redlingfield and the surrounding villages - the influx of 3,000 US servicemen swamped this quiet corner of Suffolk. Sadly one of the major events of the war happened in November 1943 when a B-17 crashed in the village destroying a farm house and killing all ten crew. A memorial to commemorate the crew was dedicated on Saturday May 15th 2010 (visit our 2010 B-17 Memorial page for more information).
