B-17 crash (the crew 2)

Pictured are, front row, from left: 2nd Lt Kenneth B Rongstad; 2nd Lt Warren M Strawn; 2nd Lt Richard E Diete; 2nd Lt Joseph F Spicer; and back row, from left: S/Sgt Gordon V Sorensen; Sgt Julius W Torok; Sgt Charles E Phinney; Sgt Louis M Mirabel; Sgt Aloysius L Godek; and S/Sgt Agnew R Eckert. S/Sgt Kenneth Cosby and S/Sgt Gail A Richmond Jr, who died in the crash, are not in the photograph. Sgt Godek and S/Sgt Eckert, who are pictured, were not among the crew who crashed in Redlingfield. S/Sgt Eckert is listed as a top turret/engineer with the Rongstad crew but why he did not fly with them on November 19th is a mystery. Sgt Godek was in the base hospital recovering from frostbite on his fingers due to ditching in the North Sea on October 20th.

This picture shows the burial at New Albany, Indiana, Veteran's Cemetery. The exact date of the cremony is unknown. The gentleman in the front row, far left, is Allen H M Strawn, father of Warren F M Strawn. The second, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth women are believed to be the mothers of the six crew members in the group grave. Most are holding a folded flag. The fifth woman from the left is 2nd Lt Strawn's mother, the young woman beside her is Gordon Sorensen's wife, Daisy Odetta Sorensen.

Many thanks to the 95th Bomb Group Heritage Association/Red Feather Club. And many thanks to Marcia A Moyer, proud niece of 2nd Lt Warren M Strawn.
